Ich habe mir dieses Werk für mein Studium gekauft. Das Stück gefällt mir sehr, das Arden Edition Buch ist gut gemacht und die extra Informationen sind sehr hilfreich.
Leider nicht neu, obwohl angegeben. Passiert leider nicht zum ersten Mal.
Wie ein Löwe muss der Fürst sein, so stark und mutig, doch auch wie der Fuchs mit seiner Schläue und List. So Macchiavelli im "Principe" sinngemäß. Unterhaltsam-dramatischer lässt sich das in Shakespeares "Julius Caesar" lesen.Hauptfigur ist eigentlich Brutus. Er wird in die Verschwörung gegen Cäsar gelockt, führt sie mit seiner Autorität an und ist doch den Populisten wie Cäsars Schnuckelchen Marcus Antonius nicht gewachsen. Brutus ist ein edler Löwe mit zu viel Moral und Gewissensskrupeln - d.h. ohne Chance. Cassius ist der zu kurz gekommene intelligente Ränkeschmied - ihm fehlt allein die Durchsetzungskraft und der Anschein des Moralischen; doch mit seiner strategischen Analyse hätten die Verschwörer gewonnen, so Shakespeares Darstellung.Cäsar ist ein eitler Löwe, er ist eigentlich bereits auf dem Abstieg und achtet auch nicht mehr auf sein Umfeld. Volk wie Adel Roms ist wetterwendisch. Cäsars Zögling Mark Anton schafft also einen demagogischen Redetriumph sondersgleichen (diese Rede auf den toten Caesar und dessen "ehrenwerte" Stecher muss man gelesen haben!), doch ihm fehlen Richtung und Disziplin. Wie wir aus den Geschichtsbüchern wissen, gewinnt der eiskalt-brutale, verschlossene und unterschätzte Octavius/ Augustus das Machtspiel letztlich: ein Fuchs mit Löwenstärke.Das Stück teilt sich auf in die Vorbereitung des Attentats auf Caesar, die Machtprobe in Rom und schließlich die Entscheidung in Philippi mit vielen Dialogen: Sprache ist zentral und bei Shakespeare natürlich gleichzeitig bei allen ungewohnten Wörtern ein herrlicher Genuss. Viereinhalb Sterne.
Having read much historically about the the Roman emperors, I was very excited to be reading JULIUS CAESAR. It was interesting at first to compare the characters of the play to the same names we read about in history books. I felt that this is one of Shakespeare's most difficult books to interpret in today's language. Even though this edition does have extensive foot (or in this book, side) notes, the reading process was confusing having to look back in forth. If you are just reading this play to read some Shakespeare, try another less difficult Shakespeare work, like A COMEDY OF ERRORS. Thsi is much easier to understand, and for beginners, you will probably enjoy it more. But if you are a beginner looking for a tragedy, try ROMEO and JULIET. While the language can be confusing at time, this classic story should really be read by all.
